This appeared in the Metro County Line newspaper on December 28, 1995. The artist is Richard Bartholomew. The following was written on the page where I found the comic:

Cartoonist Bill Watterson's announcement in October that he would retire his 10-year old "Calvin & Hobbes" comic strip at the end of the year allowed cartoonists, columnists and pundits nationwide to plan fond farewells to one of the best and most popular strips in the 100-year history of the genre. The lyrics to the Peter, Paul and Mary song, "Puff the Magic Dragon," which is also about a boy and his imaginary companion, evoke sad thoughts of how products of imagination must always outlive their creators.

[I have not been able to locate the artist online again, to ask for permission to post this. If anyone knows how to contact him, I would be appreciative.]
